8 weeks till Race Day

On 12/12/14 I started training for a 2 day mountain bike event in Costa Rica at the end of February. It’s the 24th annual (my third) Vuelta al Lago. Day one is entirely off road and consists of riding over a mountain (two category 3 climbs) followed by a rocky road that involves 2 river crossings (and a creek or two) and ends in La Fortuna, next to Volcano Arenal.  Day 2 completes the ride around the lake to return to Tilaran and is a pretty much “up and down” day. In total: 99 miles of challenging fun to test your endurance.

In December I rode a total of 6 times, and my primary training route I rode 5x. Worst time: 68 minutes. Best Time: 59 minutes. Here’s what the climb looks like:
